"Private dining"

We came here as a family of 13 to celebrate my daughters engagement. She had chosen the private dining venue as it was the perfect size for a sit down meal slightly away from the pub and restaurant. When we arrived the table was already laid out with benches which we asked if we could swap 2 of them for Carver style chairs as had some elderly family members, this wasn't a problem and was done quite swiftly. The waitress took our drinks orders and regularly popped back to top up drinks whilst waiting for other guests. Once seated we were served our pre ordered food together and we all agreed that every dish was really tasty, we had chosen various dishes, fillet steak, pork belly, pasta and fish all was well presented and exceeded our expectations. I would definitely recommend The Kings Head and we have already booked a family meal back here in September. Thank you for a lovely afternoon and in particular to our lovely waitress who also helped by taking a few family photos.

"Well worth a visit"

My son and a family friend were in the area and asked the people we were visiting where would be a good place to eat. They directed us to this pub restaurant, and we were well pleased that they did. From the outside it looks like a fairly old traditional small town country pub, but once inside it opens out into a sizeable modern restaurant. The food we ordered was good satisfying pub food slightly above average. The staff were first class, friendly knowledgeable and ready to give advice and info on various dishes on the menu. When the food arrived it was really very good, much better than I expected. Also there’s a decent wine cellar, all in all we were very well pleased that we were directed to this establishment, also their prices are reasonable. There is a public car park a short distance away, and Ongar seems a decent little town to visit.

"Coeliac and Vegetarian heaven"

Third time at this lovely restaurant. Love the building the decor the service but most importantly the food. One of my relatives has a gluten intolerance and is also vegetarian and we struggle to find one dish suitable in most restaurants. At the Kings Head she can choose from multiple dishes in all the starter, mains and dessert menus. It’s a bit of a trek for us but worth it. It also has a varied meat/fish menu for the rest and great for children too.
